Tutorial Six: The internet and Online communites

What is the brief or focus of this community?

* Focus of facebook is to connect people from all over the world. Individuals engage in instant chat, gaming , photo uploading and commenting on friends and families profiles.

What services are provided? How interactive is this site, How can people contribute?

* Instant chat, photo uploading, gaming and much more are provided by facebook.
* In my opinion facebook can be very interactive, as it has serveral gaming facilities that engage individuals different cogitive abilities.

Consider material presented during the lecture and make comment on why people choose to contribute to this community. What is it they are seeking??

* People contribute to this community because they are able to find friends and family. Groups can be made therefore opinions can be expressed. People can contribute by creating an account with facebook. If already a member contrbution can be achieved by commenting on another persons page as well as creating a groip or link.

* Peoples indentity may not be safe and a thrid part maybe able to access personal details such as someone's date of birth.

Consider material presented during the lecture and make comment on the benefits this community holds over traditional notions of community.

* The biggest benefit here is that people from all over the world can be apart of community, Geographic proxmity is no longer a factor in reagrds to joining a community. a traditional community would be seen as indivduals come together at a specific venue and discuss their related topics. Nowadays people can sit in front of a computer and be apart of a community regardless of there residence.

* Online communities can not provide the social environment that traditional communities can. There is no social contact amoung any of the community members.
